Author: Sarah J. Maas

Format: Hardcover

Pages: 693

Synopsis from Goodreads:

The long path to the throne has only just begun for Aelin Galathynius. Loyalties have been broken and bought, friends have been lost and gained, and those who possess magic find themselves at odds with those don’t.

As the kingdoms of Erilea fracture around her, enemies must become allies if Aelin is to keep those she loves from falling to the dark forces poised to claim her world. With war looming on all horizons, the only chance for salvation lies in a desperate quest that may mark the end of everything Aelin holds dear.

Aelin’s journey from assassin to queen has entranced millions across the globe, and this fifth installment will leave fans breathless. Will Aelin succeed in keeping her world from splintering, or will it all come crashing down?

Let me just say this first. I have loved the Throne of Glass series ever since I’ve seen it and read it from its first page. However, reading this book has been such a huge disappointment for me as its fan and reader. I am not expressing my being unhappy about it because my ship did not sail. There are far many things that made me hate this friggin book.

*SPOILERS AHEAD*

Nobody may read this review or nobody may feel the same way like me but it totally breaks my heart how I expected this book to be the grandest book ever released in the ToG series. I want to cry that I have anticipated for it so much but in turn I felt just irritated and tortured.

There are so many aspects to this book that did not go well for me. Let me  talk about how the other characters were tossed off to the sidelines. Unlike the previous books, we get so much involvement from the other characters but here they were like insignificant. We get a little glimpse from their POVs but that’s it.

First, it is the lack of the exposure for some of the characters that I have loved from the previous books. Take for example, Dorian. I have been waiting for his BIG moment in EoS. Given what we read in QoS, that “Newborn Gods” moment he had with Aelin, how am I not supposed to expect that he will play a huge role in this book? How am I wrong to think that the pivotal moment between Dorian and Aelin does not play a significant part to EoS? Was it all just for nothing? After everything that Dorian has been through from the previous books, I think he deserves a better character arch than what was written in EoS. I did not expect a complete character makeover where he’s like just a dumb king, following all Aelin’s orders. He said it himself: ” I am a king too, you know.” You’re a frigging king why can’t you do something great for yourself and your people???

Oh, and Chaol, another fave character… I know I may have hated him for being such an a-hole because of his bitterness for Aelin but I still care for him deeply. How did SJM ever refused to include him in this book? Now, we all get why she’s releasing a Chaol novella but nonetheless, it may have made a difference if she did.

I am sorry if I thought that the series will have a main trio namely Aelin, Dorian, and Chaol. After all, that’s where the series started right? Ughhh..I cannot help but feel agony when I think of so much potential for the plot of the whole series. Hate me all you want but it’s the truth.

Also, another part of the book that felt irritating to me were all the Rowaelin scenes. Sure, the characters are growing blah blah blah but every sex scene between them makes me cringe and  then laugh at its ridiculousness. Wtfudge was I reading? There were words like “smooth steel rod..coupling..” like ewww.. And nope, I totally object to them being together. I would have probably enjoyed the book more if Rowan died.

There’s also this “big reveal” section where SJM tries to explain how Aelin and Rowan are mates. Like hahahahahaha, wtf? How Maeve explained that they were really destined for each other. Nope. She must be kidding me. Also, how Aelin and Rowan got married secretly? LOL. SO ACOMAF. NOPE. JUST NOPE.

Let me also mention how this book missed a chunk of common sense for the characters. I felt my beloved characters were changed drastically just to give way to ROWAELIN. Everything would have been solved if Aelin and Dorian just fused their magic together. See what happened in QoS? That kind of power would have solved their problem from the start if they friggin worked together. If only SJM did not make it her goal to pair almost everyone off, the book would have been different.

I did not also feel the connection with the characters. Trust me, I have been so invested with this series to feel that in the previous books..but for EoS, nothing.. I felt as if I were turning every page expecting for something worthwhile to read. To make me actually feel something but instead I felt annoyed.

Are there any parts of the book I even enjoyed? Yeah. I only have four: All the throwback scenes with her Majesty, Queen Elena (although she was such a brat like Aelin), all the Thirteen scenes especially the execution part at Morath, the part where Aedion announced that he is willing to marry Lyssandra, and when Darrow insulted Aelin and made her rethink of her worth as the Queen of Terrasen.

Will I read the last book in the series? Maybe yes? After all I have been through reading this series, I might bring myself to suffer the last book where I can feel it that SJM will sacrifice Dorian (another one from Mab’s line) to close the damned gates. So that Aelin and Rowan will be happy together running the continent, Erilea. Yay!

Someone tell me that I am dreaming..that I am not hating on a book in a series that I have loved so much. Someone tell me, there’s an alternate ending to this series. Someone tell me SJM is going to publish her previous work in FictionPress, the one with the original ending. Okay. Bye.

Empire of Storms/ Doraelin Theories

I just want to put this out here that I am so friggin excited that the next book in my favorite series, Throne of Glass, is about to be released in 10 days. Imagine how hard it must have been for me and other hardcore ToG fans out there to wait for a year just to have this precious baby in our hands.

giphy

So, in advance celebration of the upcoming EoS release, here are some of my speculations for the next installment in the ToG series:

  • Yrene Towers comeback

In QoS, it is no secret that Nesryn will accompany Chaol to Torre Cesme to get him healed and by some twist of fate, they’re going to meet Yrene Towers. Speculation #1: She’s going to come with them back to Adarlan (and maybe but I’m praying to all the gods that this will not happen) will meet Dorian. Dorian might see Sorscha in Yrene..So it may be possible that she can be a candidate for a future queen, However, I still strongly doubt that this will happen because yes..Doraelin is still in the game.

  • Blood ties can’t be broken.

I saw somewhere online that this may pertain to Aelin and Rowan “being Caranam” and their ties being impossible to be broken. Here’s the thing…I don’t think that this refers to Rowaelin. When Queen Elena said this in ToG (I’m not sure), I guess when she said this, she was warning Celaena/Aelin about blood ties. That being particularly about Rowan’s blood sworn oath to Maeve. Maeve is a very powerful fae and letting Aelin win at that time was too easy. I think Maeve has an ulterior motive behind that. She is not going to let Rowan slip away from her hands easily. In EoS, I am guessing that the Fae Queen will claim Rowan back through that blood tie and Rowan will be used against Aelin or something like that.

  • Queen Elena and other characters might be back through a wyrdgate.

Total crazy theory here. I am guessing that Aelin and company will find a way to use a wyrdgate on-hand to call for a help from someone. That will be no other than Queen Elena herself. In ToG and CoM, she has been making appearances and we’ve pretty much missed her since then. My Doraelin shipper heart tells me that she’ll play a big part in bringing back my babies together.

Nehemia may come back as well to help Dorian maybe? Dorian has no one in the castle remember? Who else is going to help him but Nehemia and hopefully King Gavin and Queen Elena?

  • Dorian and Mort encounter

With no one else around Dorian, what else is he going to do? He’s probably going to research more on his powers. He’s going to have to go to the same place where Celaena found the ancient tomb of King Gavin and Queen Elena. While he’s there, he’s got to have a conversation with Mort. I bet he and Mort will have a good long talk about what Dorian needs to know about his powers and ancestry.

  • Aelin and Dorian are mates.

There was this released quote from EoS which talks about finding each other throughout the centuries. Guess what? Aelin and Dorian are really Gavin and Elena reincarnated. What else was the purpose of Cain giving emphasis to “You were all brought here for an unfinished game” thingy? Plus, I’m sure Queen Elena has also given hints to that.

Another was Dorian and Aelin finding each other throughout the books.

1st Encounter: King of Adarlan bringing little Dorian to visit Terrasen, where he meets little Aelin.

2nd Encounter:The Assassin’s Blade (not sure which one), the party that Dorian and Chaol crashed? Those two met again unexpectedly and briefly.

3rd Encounter: Dorian, unknowingly, choosing Aelin (aka Celaena Sardothien back then) as his champion for the King’s contest.

Need I remind you of that epic Doraelin moment in QoS with “They were infinite. They were the beginning and ending” scene. Plus, there are so many Doraelin and FeyRhys/FeySand parallels.

  • My baby Aedion will have a beautiful long life with Lyssandra.

He is so not going to die. I know in my heart that he is going to survive whatever war they will face in the upcoming books. Also, I think that he’s gonna get together with Lyssandra. Lyssandrion FTW!!!!

  • Malide will happen.

Many are speculating about Manorian happening but I can think of hundreds of reasons why they are not compatible. I’d rather have Malide happen. I mean those two are so adorable together. It’s going to make Abraxos so happy!!!

That’s all I’ve got for now. I’ll update this when I come up with more theories. 🙂

I’m on Tumblr too where I fangirl more about Doraelin and the ToG world. It’s doraelinisinfinite.tumblr.com

Book Review: A Court of Mist and Fury by Sarah J. Maas

Title: A Court of Mist and Fury (A Court of Thorns and Roses #2)

Author: Sarah J. Maas

Publisher:  Bloomsbury USA Children’s

Format: Hardcover

Pages: 624

Synopsis from Goodreads:

Feyre survived Amarantha’s clutches to return to the Spring Court—but at a steep cost. Though she now has the powers of the High Fae, her heart remains human, and it can’t forget the terrible deeds she performed to save Tamlin’s people.

Nor has Feyre forgotten her bargain with Rhysand, High Lord of the feared Night Court. As Feyre navigates its dark web of politics, passion, and dazzling power, a greater evil looms—and she might be key to stopping it. But only if she can harness her harrowing gifts, heal her fractured soul, and decide how she wishes to shape her future—and the future of a world cleaved in two.

Warning: *Contains spoilers, I’m fangirling and I can’t help it!*

Where do I even begin? This book made me live and die, and live and die, over and over again. The year I have waited for this is really worth it. I had  my theories before but I really could not believe it when the story went to a different path from what I expected.

tumblr_mg8ebp5ei51re752fo1_400

In ACOTAR, we were left with a broken Feyre, a recovering Tamlin, and a stunned Rhysand. Each one of our beloved main characters are left with the nightmares from the horrors that Amarantha has done.

Then, in ACOMAF, we are brought back to what life is like for Feyre and Tamlin after Amarantha’s death. We are also introduced to the infamous Night Court. This is actually the part that I was most excited about in reading this book. We all know that last scene about Feyre and Rhysand. That moment when Rhysand staggered back when he looked at Feyre’s face. I speculated in that instant..that maybe they are mates. Oh and nobody forgets about the bargain that they made. So, we all knew that at some point in this book Feyre has to get to visit the Night Court. She did but not in the fashion that Rhys timed it. Lol, that made me cracked up. During the wedding, when Feyre was begging internally for someone to help her..and BHAM!!! Rhys comes out of nowhere to help her escape.

anigif_enhanced-17492-1406560553-18

While I enjoyed that scene very much, I cannot help but feel sorry for Feyre. I did not even expect that her situation with Tamlin would turn out that way. The loooove they had for each other seemed to burn out. I remembered the passion that they had in the first book but here they just seemed miserable being with each other.

tumblr_inline_n92f9pe7f21sgswti

“Keyword: W-A-S” 😛

With every turn of the page, I cannot help but anticipate Feyre spending one week of every month with Rhys. Plus, the way she described the Night Court, I can’t help but wish it could be real. In my head, I was picturing it like Santorini, Greece. I don’t know but that’s how my mind conjured it up.

santorini_shutt510

*How I picture Night Court. Pic not mine. Source*

Oh, and let’s talk about Rhysand’s squad. Gods, I love them! I immediately fell in love with their attitude, powers, and individual mysteries. It’s like everything in Prythian is 100000000 times cooler in Night Court.

6598773

Back to the story, all the plot twists and turns are fantabulous. I do think that Sarah has been able to craft this world into a magnificent level. I think she really did think through how each character arc would be. It’s not hurried. It’s not like what she did in Queen of Shadows with regards to Aelin and Chaol. This time, I felt like it was reasonable enough.

Another point that I want to touch in this review is how Sarah always makes her female characters strong. I love her for women empowerment. Let’s be honest. Feyre was suppressed by what Tam has done to her. He just used her as a trophy fiancee? I dunno. Don’t get me wrong. I loved Tamlin so much and I still do. However, if I were Feyre, I would feel suffocated too. Good thing Rhys has allowed Feyre to grow and to fight.

*sighs heavily*

Now, the fight with the King of Hyberia. I absolutely enjoyed the training that Feyre has received from the “SQUAD”. Oh, and their visit at the Summer Court was really entertaining as well. We also got to visit Nesta and Elain. I’m still annoyed with Nesta for not being so caring to Feyre, not like the way she does for Elain. I hope she redeems herself in the next book.

Also, the hate I have for the human queens runs bone deep. By the cauldron, how could they be so selfish!!! Urghhh!!! When they basically endangered my baby Rhys and Feyre and the rest of the squad, I want to strangle them so they could die. Lol, just kidding.

The last part, when all the sh*t went down. I wanted to shout at someone and throw the book despite its awesomeness. I just really can’t believe everything I have witnessed before the book ended but at least, we got a consolation with Rhysand’s POV at the last chapter. I really do hope that their mate thing will still enable them to message each other. I am just really worried with Feyre. I know my worry is useless given the fact that she’s somehow stronger and more powerful.

Fave parts? Uhmm..all the FeyRhys scenes, the part when Feyre retrieved Rhys’ ring from that scary creature, and moment when Rhy told Feyre that they are mates. So much love for those!!!

Lastly, I just want to say that this book is friggin sexy. Damn. 😉 ❤ #RhysandsWingSpan

Sarah J. Maas in PH Book Signing RECAP

10300521_10201172260185548_7117091803614010084_n (1)

March 13, 2016 has been officially my favorite day ever this year. I got to meet the Queen, Sarah J. Maas. The book signing event was hosted by National Book Store and was held at NBS Glorietta 1.

I went to the venue as early as 10AM the day before. I was 7th in line. The earliest attendee arrived at 5:30 freaking AM. Oh gods! I just love Sarah so so so much that I camped out for the first time in FOREVER. The whole experience was better because I met my new friends from the ToG facebook group that I am a member of. Also, it was so fun to discuss all things ToG and ACOTAR with them. (In my usual day, I actually yearn to have people to actually talk about this subject to. Can’t help but talk to my brothers who looks at me like I’m a crazy lady when I do that.)

12494905_10201172769438279_3320753280013272532_n

The whole event especially lining up for the book signing was surprisingly organized. There were “bouncers” who ensures that no one tries to cut into the lines and make “singit” as the Filipinos call it.

The loooooonggggggg waiting period was the hardest. I survived on foods and interrupted periods of naps the whole night long. When the BIG DAY for us came, we were all energized especially when it was time for registration. After that, it was as if the whole day was a blur.

12814061_10201172772718361_7641746009526640696_n

Then, 2PM came and everyone was excited. When, Sarah arrived, everyone was screaming and chanting and cheering for their ships! I love all the feels flood that day. I’m so happy to learn that there are many who are sailing with me in the DORAELIN SHIP. My fangirl heart could never be happier than this.

Author interview came next. What really stuck to my mind was when Sam was brought up..and she told us that it was also hard for her to write about him. Also, when she said that she adapted the “I will not be afraid” line from ToG in her life. I was brought to tears and we can all feel that she was trying not to cry as well. Oh, she was also asked who she connects to the most among the 3 lead guys in ToG. Her answer was on the safe side but she described Dorian the longest. 😉 ❤ I was also overwhelmed with feels when she said how the Filipino readers are the best in the world.

10400013_10201172775838439_7782191577618674002_n

The actual book signing took place. When it was my turn, I was really freaking out inside and trying so hard to calm down. Oh my gods, it was as if I was starstruck. I felt that I met Aelin in flesh (and when I saw her husband, Josh, like he’s totally Dorian). I swear it’s like I met King Dorian and Queen Aelin in front of me. I literally was a loss for words and just said that I was so happy to see her and was trying so hard not to cry. *I know totally embarrassing, I hope Sarah was not freaked out by me* I thanked her for coming and that the camp out was so worth it bc I got to meet her. Too bad, the management was not allowing hugs..but at least I did the author-handshake with her.

Thank you to Sarah for coming! We’re really blessed and overjoyed to have you here in our country. I hope you’ll come back with your hubs. To National Book Store, lots of gratitude from me for making the impossible happen. Thank you for making the Filipino book nerds dream come true. 🙂

Sarah J. Maas in Philippines!

When Sarah’s newsletter arrived in my e-mail and I read about her upcoming book signing in Manila, I totally freaked out because gods, I never thought she’d come here! I was a bit heartbroken though because another bookstore will be hosting this event. I mean I already have all her books in hardcover US editions but I can do nothing but accept that I’d have to buy another set of her books (UK editions to be specific).

Right now, National Book Store officially released their mechanics for the SJM book signing event. There are some disappointments (aka NO POSED PICS WITH THE AUTHOR and BOOK LIMIT). However, again, I can’t do anything about these. I would have to deal with these because I really really really really would love to see one of my most beloved authors of all time. Like I literally would cry with happiness when I see her in person. I will set aside my frustration and try to focus instead on the fact that I’ll get to meet her.

Sarah’s Book signing event in Manila, hosted by National Book Store, will be on March 13 at NBS Glorietta 1. I’m so excited!!!!!

Best Reads in 2015

Another year has passed! Sure it is that all those months flew away so fast. In terms of how my reading went this year, I kind of slacked off and read less than I did last year. Nevertheless, I am still proud of myself for still  reading books even though I’ve got a busy schedule. So, here are my Top 10 reads in 2015.

  1. Queen of Shadows (Throne of Glass #4) by Sarah J. Maas

Oh gods above, everytime I think about this book, I get all sorts of feelings. I want to cry and laugh at the same time. This practically drove me crazy since I finished reading it. I will not tell much about this book but I swear you should read it. There are at least 2 more books to go for this series.

4. Hero of Ages (Mistborn ##3) by Brandon Sanderson

Thank goodness for booktube! It’s because of it that I got to discover the fantastic Mistborn series. It’s unlike anything that I have ever read before. It may take some time and dedication to fully get on the excitement on the story but the effort will be so worth it.

8. Slammed (Slammed #1) by Colleen Hoover

10 Ways to Survive Waiting for Throne of Glass Book 5

Any Throne of Glass fans here? Just in case you don’t know, I am such a fan of this series. I’ve raved so much about this series for like a bajillion times already. It brought my hardcore fangirl heart back alive. It’s been pretty dormant these past few years but when I read Throne of Glass by Sarah J. Maas last year, I instantly fell in love with everything that is in the book. I am already afraid again for myself for being so much invested in this series. But you can never be afraid to love if it makes you happy right? 😛

Anyhoo, if you’re a ToG fan already, I know you know how painful it is for us to wait another year just get our hands on ToG book 5. Oh Gods, give us strength!

As a fellow ToG fan and Fireheart, here I am to guide you and teach you my ways on how to survive waiting for Throne of Glass Book 5:

  1. Read the previous books in the series as much as you can.

I know this is a no-brainer…but it’s really one of the best things you could do to survive. Reliving all the best  moments in the series will help you get through the one year we have to endure. Plus, you’ll be a pro in the ToG if you can remember every single detail about it, right? Ahhh…that giddy feeling I felt during the yulemas when Celaena and Dorian…..aghhhh…asdfghjkl

Oops. Sorry. 😉

    2. Decode chapters or sections of the book like crazy

I’m probably not the only one who does this. I tell you there are plenty of us who does this. Don’t worry. Your behavior is totally normal. I usually stay up late at night trying to decipher the lines in some of the sections in the book. I mean “They were all players in an unfinished game.”…Sounds familiar? I’m still pretty sure my ship is sailing *whispers: Doraelin is endgame*

      3. Make your own ToG playlist.

Such a good way to step up your reading experience! Drown in loads of feels while reading your favorite ToG book.

     4. Create a ToG-dedicated blog.

I haven’t done this one yet but I’m pretty close to doing it. I have this blog though to rave about it! I’m pretty much writing all of my feels out of my fangirling heart!

5. Write your own fanfiction!

I’ve tried to search a ToG fanfic but there’s nothing yet that caught my eye. If this is going to continue, I might as well create my own fanfiction…. inside my head. For the gifted writers out there, why not write  a ToG fanfic? I mean there are some stuff in the series that we are frustrated about but in fanfic we can make what we want to happen, happen.

   6. Do booktube-marathon.

Feeling alone? Like there’s no one to fangirl with you because well nobody can understand you but your fellow fandom members, right? Booktube is the first answer to your problem. Before, I have no place to go whenever I finish a book. Now, I can see other people who love the books that I love as much as I do. It’s too much fun watching their reviews and reactions about the series.

     7. Watch Sarah’s interviews.

I dedicate a healthy portion of my time watching interviews of Sarah aka Our Queen. You know how much we hunger for some precious ToG deets!

     8. Join Facebook Groups or online discussions.

I’m lucky enough to discover some facebook groups which are solely dedicated to discussing Queen of Shadows. I think, it’s my place to be until the next book gets released next year. There are also ToG online discussions in Goodreads. I think I also saw pretty interesting posts in Tumblr regarding the happenings in the ToG series.

     9. Stalk Sarah’s Pinterest.

If you still don’t know about this, Sarah’s Pinterest is full of hints about her novels. I confess that this is so addictive. I check it like everyday to see if I can maybe get a glimpse to what will happen in ToG book 5. Tip: Look at the comments section of the pictures, you can learn a lot from those.

 10. Search and Formulate Theories.

Finally! The last and most essential way to survive the long wait is to search and formulate theories. I tell you, I have found some really good theories in Tumblr and Instagram. When I tell really good theories, I mean theories which are so good they might as well be reading Sarah’s mind. I hope they can, especially those who theorize about Dorian and Aelin ending up together. Those Doraelin endgame theories are all I have until ToG 5 release next year!

To start off, I really don’t know how I can express my adoration for this wonderful creation by Sarah J. Maas. She’s really a kick-ass author and reading QoS is like the rain to a long-time drought or the oasis in the middle of the desert. I just cannot contain my love and other feels for this series in my heart.

My general thoughts about Queen of Shadows?

It’s heart-pounding and fantastic!!! I loved almost every part of it. My expectations as a fan of the ToG series was met. I mean not all of it but it definitely gave me satisfaction as to all of the things that I have been anticipating to happen in this installment. Sarah’s writing style is purely gold. All those plot twists made me curse her and love her. Lol, just kidding but I really love Sarah J. Maas with all my heart. Will the ToG fans love it? Yes, absolutely! It’s worth the wait. The 648-page journey with Aelin is one hell of a ride. If you haven’t read the ToG series, seriously, what are you doing with your life?

Character-wise, I guess most of them changed A LOT. I know it was expected given what they went through from the previous books. Aelin came back to Adarlan as a more matured person. I mean she picks her fights. You will know what I mean when you get to read the parts concerning her and Arobynn..and her and Dorian. She still is the sassy Celaena but she’s less arrogant and more patient? Maybe it’s just me who thought of her that way. I’ll comment about the “SHIPS” later on.

Chaol, oh dear Chaol. I didn’t know that you had a place in my heart. Let’s be honest, he’s been a prick to Celaena in the end of Heir of Fire. He wasn’t able to accept Celaena’s true identity. I think what redeemed Chaol was his undying loyalty to Dorian. That’s what made me pray that no harm is going to happen to him.

Rowan, well, what can I say..he’s been softer? That’s only when it comes to Aelin. Ughh..but overall he’s still the hot Fae warrior that we met in HoF.  I appreciated the fact that he’s civilized with Aedion when they met and at the later parts of the book.

Remember Lyssandra, that courtesan from The Assasin’s Blade? We get to meet her again. It will be spoilery though if I say how she’s changed.

Oh and Dorian..I don’t even want to go to what happened to him. That was what tortured me the most while I was reading this book.

We also get to encounter new characters. The fact that I loved every single new character in this book is a good thing. Whether they were the good or the bad guys, I enjoyed how well-crafted they were.

Now, let me go to the main plots of QoS and my feels about them: [SPOILERS AHEAD]

.

.

.

*Rescuing Aedion

I was freaking out during this whole scene. Oh gods, I was so worried with everyone in the gang. I mean who the heck would stand a chance in tricking everyone in the castle and rescuing Aedion on Dorian’s birthday!!! It nearly killed me!! And that encounter between Aelin and the evil Dorian, I was crying the whole time because I was thinking that he’s going to be dead. Aelin was like: “Come on Dorian, tell me that you’re still there!!! One more minute!!” I’M LIKE ARGHHHHHH!!! MY HEART!!! THANK ALL THE GODS FOR NESRYN!!!!

*Revenge on Arobynn

Who’s been waiting for Aelin’s revenge on Arobynn? Me! Me! Me! Honestly, I was a bit disappointed here. I had high hopes that Celaena would be the one to do it to Arobynn. Remember how vicious she can be during a revenge? Arobynn would have deserved that. (I know I’m so bad.) Though I guess, it’s better that Lyssandra was the one who did it. I mean one can only take so much guilt in her conscience.

*Wth is happening in Morath?

All the Morath scenes are totally crazy and creepy. Everything’s been so horrible in that place. Thank goodness that it’s not that boring. I was actually excited to know all the evil things that Perrington and the king have been up to. Imagine that Valg demons are inside human bodies . Then, Valg princes are mating with witches. It’s terrifying. I have a good feeling about Manon and her group. I hope she’s going to form an alliance with Aelin soon.

*Baby Dorian’s freedom

MY baby Dorian has been through so much and I just want to take him out from the book and take care of him. Unfortunately, he’s got to fight the demon inside of him. When all sh*t goes down in the Rifthold, I was having a hard time proceeding. All the friggin time that he was chasing Aelin, I was praying that neither of them would hurt each other. ALL THE FEELS WHEN AELIN WAS TELLING DORIAN TO FIGHT the valg. Oh Gods!! Then, THAT MOMENT WHEN THEY HELD HANDS AND FOUGHT THE KING WAS PURE BLISS!!!

SHIPS:

*Chaolena: (*Plays: We Are Never Ever Getting Back Together*) I’m sorry to say this Chaolena fans but it seems that all hopes for Chaol has been extinguished in QoS. I mean first of all, Chaol still can’t accept who Aelin is. Then, Nesyrn comes along in Chaol’s life. They start having this friends w/ benefits kind of relationship that grows into something more. Oh and Chaol and Nesryn’s scene at the temple before their attack in the palace? Yeah..so it looks like it’s Nesryn and Chaol will be together.

*Rowaelin: This ship looks like it’s on its steady sailing right now. In HoF, Aelin and Rowan agress of only having platonic relationship. Few moments apart… BAM! It seems that they miss and LOVE each other. WTH? Rowan’s edge over the other guys, he and Aelin are caranam. I’m not happy about them being together in QoS but I gotta say that Rowaelin scenes are STEAMY!!!

*Doraelin/Celorian: In this ship, I sail and forever will stay. You guys might not see them ending up together right now but I know that they will. Mark my words. It’s going to happen. Lol. 😉 ❤

*Lyssandra & Aedion (Damn it! It’s hard to come up w/ a ship name for them!): The moment that these two met in QoS, I know that they are made for each other.

I feel like I could say more but I’m afraid this review has been too long. I’ll have to have another post about my theories for the next book. Maybe I’ll get to it soon. All I can say is that until now, I have a hangover from this book. I cannot stop thinking about it. It will be such a long long year to wait for the release of the next installment in the series.

Book Review: A Court of Thorns and Roses by Sarah J. Maas

Title: A Court of Thorns and Roses (A Court of Thorns and Roses #1)

Author: Sarah J. Maas

Publisher: Bloomsbury Children’s (May 5, 2015)

Format: Hardcover

Pages: 416

Synopsis from Goodreads:

When nineteen-year-old huntress Feyre kills a wolf in the woods, a beast-like creature arrives to demand retribution for it. Dragged to a treacherous magical land she only knows about from legends, Feyre discovers that her captor is not an animal, but Tamlin—one of the lethal, immortal faeries who once ruled their world.

As she dwells on his estate, her feelings for Tamlin transform from icy hostility into a fiery passion that burns through every lie and warning she’s been told about the beautiful, dangerous world of the Fae. But an ancient, wicked shadow grows over the faerie lands, and Feyre must find a way to stop it . . . or doom Tamlin—and his world—forever.

Can I just say how excited I was when I got hold of this book? It was released way back in May. I’ve been hunting book stores nearby just to have it in my hands. It was only just this July that I saw it sitting in its glory on a book store’s shelf. I had to immediately grab it and squealed!!!

I dunno how Sarah J. Maas does it but ever since I read her books, I fell in love with the Faes. Sure I was fascinated about them but I never read a good enough story that involves faeries. A Court of Thorns and Roses is set in a world where faeries and humans live under a treaty which keeps the peace in their land. When Feyre kills a wolf for the sake of her family’s survival, she was then captured by Tamlin ( a total hot fae!!) as her punishment for killing his friend (whom Feyre thought was just a regular wolf).

In my opinion, ACOTAR has this darker feel to it. Feyre’s family has been struggling to survive on a daily basis. The main character, Feyre, has to work hard just to provide for her family. She’s got this angst-y attitude which is totally reasonable because who wouldn’t be after being through a lot of tough times. Somehow, I loved Celaena of ToG more than her. Just because Celaena is so funny, sassy, and at the same time very bad-ass. Feyre’s is more serious though, so it took me longer to love her as a character. Actually, it was harder to fall in love with the ACOTAR characters than the ToG ones.

Now, on with the male leads..

Tamlin is someone who can be so scary but also lovable. I was all set on liking him until the real reason of him capturing Feyre was revealed. Don’t get me wrong, I also love him. He’s also humorous and sweet.  Rhysand , on the other hand, is the total opposite of Tamlin’s gentleness. He’s so dark and seductive (lol at my choice of words but he is!!) He’s got his intentions with Feyre but I still root for him to have a happy ending. Ughhh!! It is so hard with Sarah’s male characters. They’re so hot and easy to fall in love with.

The villain of the book, Amarantha was written in a way that will make you loathe her with all your being. However, once you found out the root of her evilness, you’ll get where she’s coming from.

Sarah’s writing style was definitely amazing. I mean the way she did all that world building made me almost want to live in Prythian specifically in the Spring Court. Oh and the magic system is wonderful. I loved it that I got lost in this beautiful world of Faes.

Best Reads in 2014

What a year it has been! 😀 Time flies by so fast. I’m pretty surprised at myself at how involved I became in reading. One day, I met some cool book friends and voila, I get to come to book signings and read loads of books!!! I am pretty proud of myself. So, 2014 has been an awesome year for me. I’ve been taken to lots of worlds and I can say that I lived a thousand lives (or maybe just hundreds, lol)  this year through books. Anyway, these are my Top 14 reads this 2014!!

1. Heir of Fire (Throne of Glass #3) by Sarah J. Maas

I am such a huge fan of this series. I am still spreading word about how awesome and badass this series is. My friends are probably annoyed by how enthusiastic I am when talking about Sarah J. Maas and Celaena Sardothien. I can’t believe I still have another year to wait for the next book in the series. In the meantime, I am still pining for Prince Dorian Havillard.

2. Fangirl by Rainbow Rowell

This is one of my all-time faves because I can relate to almost everything there is in Fangirl. I’ve had such a great time reading Cath’s journey as a die-hard fan of Simon and Baz. I can relate very much to this book. Levi is also one of the best book boyfriends ever. Thank you Rainbow for the amazingness of this novel!

3. The Edge of Never (The Edge of Never #1) by JA Redmerski

Everytime I think about this book, I can’t help but recall the emotional rollercoaster ride that I have been on while reading it. it’s such a beautiful novel about falling in love and finding meaning in life.

4. Maybe Someday by Colleen Hoover

Sydney and Ridge’s story is like no other. Colleen Hoover drowned me with so much feels. I had a great time reading this book together while listening to its soundtrack. The song Maybe Someday by Griffin Peterson put me in a bad case of book hangover. This is one of the few times that I’ve said to myself that it is awesome to read while listening to music. Mostly, I just prefer reading in silence but this book changed my mind.

5. The Retribution of Mara Dyer (Mara Dyer #3)

This conclusion to the Mara Dyer series got my heart racing. I can’t still get over from the Romeo-Juliet-ish part of the book. I am so satisfied with everything that is in this book. Oh and I’m so stoked for Michelle Hodkin’s book tour in Manila next year!! Yay for me!!!!

6. Ignite Me (Shatter Me #3) by Tahereh Mafi

Aaron Warner, I love you. Why are you even fictional?

Compared to the previous novels in the series, I definitely enjoyed Ignite Me. It has loads of thrills and squeal-worthy moments. I also appreciated Juliette here more because well at least she’s stronger and less irritating here. The ending of the series could have been written better but I’m still satisfied with the action-filled closing chapters to the series.

7. Divergent (Divergent #1) by Veronica Roth

If only Allegiant didn’t break my heart, it would have been the one on this list..but no. I think Divergent is the best book in the series. I enjoyed the idea of factions and all the very memorable moments when Tris met Four. ❤

8. The One (The Selection #3) by Kiera Cass

The Selection series might have the most annoying and indecisive main character (aka America Singer), however, it’s one of my most beloved series. Why? Because it made me swoon and laugh. It was a fantastic news to hear that Kiera Cass will be publishing more set in America and Maxon’s world.

8. To all the boys I’ve loved before by Jenny Han

This is another light read that I really really enjoyed. It has some drama but I love the plot. I loved how this book not only focused on romance but also on family and friendship. It also has a gorgeous cover right?

Yes, yes..I have two books for the 8th spot..It’s hard to pick!! 😀

9. Hollow City (Miss Peregrine’s Home for Peculiar Children #2) by Ransom Riggs

Hollow City made an amazing impression on me after reading it. I felt like I did some time travelling with Jacob and Emma and the rest of the gang. I am so looking forward to the next book in the series as well as the movie for Miss P book!!

10. Lola and the Boy Next Door (Anna and the French Kiss #2) by Stephanie Perkins

This is one of my recent reads that I loved so much. I was really into because it was funny and adorable. It’s just what I needed to brighten up my mood this Holiday season.

11. The Oracle (The Arcadian Series #2) by TL Coulter

As a reader who enjoys fantasy, I think The Oracle, the second book in The Arcadian series made me fall in love to magical kingdoms and realms again. I read it in June or July. So after the cliffie, I craved for more magical kingdom-themed fantasy novels. It was really worth it.

12. Unravel by Callia Read

Unravel is another emotional read that I had this year. It’s filled with wtf plot twists that made me go crazy. It’s a pretty awesome read..more like a mind-fvck but in a good way.

13. Where She Went by (If I Stay #2) by Gayle Forman

The If I Stay novel was a bit meh for me but this one made me feel so much emotions. Gosh..I hope there will be a movie for it.

14. Bang by EK Blair

Gods, this is the most controversial and traumatizing read for me. I wonder if there will ever be a HEA for this. I like how crazy and dark this book is.

So, that’s it for me this 2014. Next year is going to be more thrilling for sure!!! For the meantime, I am leaving y’all with my greetings:
