Friday Favorites: Chic Lit Author

Friday FavoritesFriday Favorites is a meme hosted by  Tressa’s Wishful Endings. It is a meme in which you can post or feature anything bookish that is your favorite. It can be a book, an author, series, or blog. Whatever it is that your bookish heart desires.

For this week’s Friday Favorites, I decided to put on the spotlight, my favorite Chic Lit Author. In this case, that would be Miss Sophie Kinsella. She’s the author of the best selling novels, Confessions of a Shopaholic, Wedding Night, Twenties Girl, and more.

I discovered Sophie Kinsella’s novels way back when Confessions of a Shopaholic became a movie. I enjoyed the movie, so I thought I should begin hunting for her books. When I came to the bookstore, I can’t find a copy of the CoS, so I picked up Remember Me? instead. I definitely loved the novel. It was funny and the pacing of the story was really good.

Among her novels that I read, my favorites are The Undomestic Goddess and I’ve Got Your Number. Gosh! I remember myself having a really great time reading them. The characters are hilarious and I can relate to some of them. Also, the main guys characters are so swoon-worthy.

The Undomestic Goddess is about Samantha Sweeting who’s a very successful lawyer. One day, she finds out that she made a huge mistake which will end her career. Panicking over what might happen to her, she ends up getting lost in the middle of nowhere town. There, she goes to a house to ask for directions but she becomes mistaken as their new housekeeper. Her new bosses has totally no idea that she’s a lawyer.

I’ve Got Your Number is also a very entertaining story. The main character is Poppy Wyatt, a girl who’s soon going to be married to the man of her dreams. Unfortunately, she loses the engagement ring that her fiance gave to her. It’s not an ordinary engagement ring though. It is a ring that has been passed down to generations in her fiance’s family. Not only that, Poppy loses her phone as well. Pacing at a lobby of the hotel, she finds a cell phone in the trash can. She decides to keep it for the mean time but it’s owner, Sam Roxton wants it back.

Intrigued by those novels’ synopsis? I know. I know. Go and read them please? They are my faves for a reason. I can’t even with my feels. What I love the most about her characters is that they are lovable and got lively personalities. They’re the kind of characters that you’d love to be even they have a mess of a life to fix. It’s just that I find it fitting for me to be reading novels that are all about finding yourself and your happiness.

Her books are the best choices if you are looking for something light and funny to read. I am definitely sure that you will be relieved of stress.

Anyway, I have yet to read the Shopaholic Series, Can you Keep a Secret, and Wedding Night. It’s also one of my goals to complete my Sophie Kinsella book collection.

Friday Favorites: Book Series

Friday Favorites

This week’s Friday Favorite Feature is my favorite book series. That would be the Mara Dyer Series by Michelle Hodkin.

Wonderful covers right? These books have the kind of covers that would look so good on your shelves plus they shout mystery when you look at them. They are dreamy-like pictures which I think suit the over-all tone of the books. They are dark and mysterious.

The Unbecoming of Mara Dyer is basically about this girl Mara Dyer (lol of course) who woke up in a hospital, suddenly forgetting everything that happened to her, her bestfriends, and boyfriend, Jude. All of them, except her, were all killed after the asylum that they visited collapsed. To move on from the accident, she and her family moved to another town. At her new school, she meets the very charming Noah Shaw. Not only that, she also begins to get dreams and hallucinations that scare the crap out of her.

I started reading The Unbecoming of Mara Dyer at night time. Apparently, I made a bad choice because oh well, it freaked me out. The book was creepy. I had goosebumps as I got to several parts in which Mara had hallucinations (were those hallucinations or were they really true?). The books were indeed page-turners and unputdownable. As the story goes, it gets confusing..more and more questions arise. Arghhhhh!!!!

Michelle Hodkin has a wonderful and thrilling writing style. I need more, okay? Unfortunately, fans of the Mara Dyer series still have to wait until November this year to get the last book, The Retribution of Mara Dyer. But whatever, it’s like only a few months away. Actually, it is my most anticipated book of the year. I hope that the answers will be revealed and that there will be HEA. For the meantime, this is me waiting for TRoMD:

Friday Favorites: Fictional Boyfriend

Friday Favorites

Hello everyone! It’s time to do something new for my blog. I just recently discovered the Friday Favorites. It is a weekly meme hosted by Tressa’s Wishful Endings. It’s basically featuring anything bookish that you love on spotlight. It can be about an author, books, series, blogs, and more. I thought that this will be so much fun to do. So, I will be doing Friday Favorites posts as much as I can every week.

For my first Friday Favorites, I’ll be featuring my Favorite Fictional Boyfriend. To be honest, I have loads of favorite fictional boyfriends. But..the Number One in my list  right now would be Levi from Fangirl by Rainbow Rowell. Let me tell you what I love about him that makes me wish he is a real life person.

First, Levi is one of the fictional characters who seems to be so realistic. He’s not perfect. I am pretty sure he’s got flaws which were mentioned in Fangirl. One of which is him not being a “book-person”. At first, I was like: “How can you not be a book person? That’s a total turn off.” Well, as I got to know him more, I changed my view on him. It wasn’t like it’s his fault that he cannot tolerate reading books for a long time. He relies on audio-style of learning. Here’s their conversation about him not being a book person:

Cath: You read the books?

Levi: I’ve seen the movies.

Cath: So, you haven’t read the books?

Levi: I’m not really a book person

Cath: That might be the most idiotic thing you’ve said to me.

I began to like him when he tried so hard to study for his lessons by recording the lecture of their professors. Also, he takes time and almost begs Cath (lol) to read her Simon Snow fanfics to him. I think that was really awesome of him to try to understand Cath’s obsession with Simon and Baz. Plus, he doesn’t judge Cath just because she’s a fangirl of this series that has touched her heart and became a huge part of her life. Seriously, who wouldn’t want a boyfriend that totally gets you when you’re fangirling and you’re drowning in your feels? Basically, Levi is the dream guy of every fangirl.

Also, what I loved about Levi is that he genuinely cares for Cath. He’s practically a gentleman. Plus, he’s adorable, smart, and funny. How could he not exist in real life? I am wishing hard that he would. Just kidding (but I really hope Anyway, he is also the type of guy who apologizes when he’s wrong. He knows when to set aside his pride.

What else? I think he brought the best out of Cath. Not that Cath is not really good..but I mean Cath is close to being anti-social. She doesn’t like going out and she’s afraid to make new friends (kinda sorta like me). It was Levi and of course Reagan who helped her to become relaxed with other people and go out and have fun. He helped Cath in a lot of ways.

I probably have more stuff to tell about Levi. He’s just the best fictional boyfriend, IMO. Thank you Rainbow Rowell for creating one of my most beloved characters of all time.

Favorite quote from Levi:

“I like your glasses,” he said. “I like your Simon Snow T-shirts. I like that you don’t smile at everyone, because then, when you smile at me.… Cather.” He kissed her mouth. “Look at me.”

She did.

“I choose you over everyone.”
